Historic Photos
The collection of Historic Photos is a unique window into the early days of Highland Park Arboretum when the park was an important part of international botanical research and exchange. The majority of the collection is from the annals of the Parks' Herbarium, instituted in 1908 and maintained through the 1950s.
In addition to the vast collection of cataloged plant samples, the Herbarium staff took multiple photographs—printed, mounted and labeled. Richard E. Horsey, one of the Park's leading horticulturists from 1908-1949, established the Herbarium, widely recognized for its excellence. Thank you to the dedicated plantsmen who established the foundation of the beautiful park we enjoy and celebrate today and into the future. (Photo sources are noted.)
